At Logan’s chapel, employees gathered to reflect on the anniversary, and most airline workers wore pins of red, white, and blue ribbon or blue rubber bracelets that read, “We will never forget.”

Bands are sold to help with 9/11 fund

Right now Foti is working with a group called WTC Families for Proper Burial (www.wtcfamiliesforproperburial.com), a group who wants the victims’ remains removed from the Fresh Kills landfill on Staten Island.

Lyons sold black rubber bracelets with the message 𔄡/11 Never Forget WTC” on them to raise funds and to help support his friend.


Teen’s girlfriend uses bands as a fundraiser to pay medical costs

Matt’s girlfriend, Dani Condino, is setting up a tennis tournament to raise money. Red silicone bracelets with “Matt Frey” and a football inscribed on are being sold.

Through it all, getting back to the football field has been a major motivation for Matt.
It was one of the first thoughts he had when he was diagnosed.


Son uses bands to remember father

Sean Gartland held a dripping bag of ice to his hip after a 7-mile run with his St. Charles teammates. The pain, he said, won’t slow him down.

On his wrist was a Kelly green silicone bracelet, similar to the Livestrong bands Lance Armstrong made popular. It reads “Run 4 It,” a testament to his passion for running and the memory of his father.


10,000 bands sold for “Everybody’s Mayor”

About 10,000 black-and-gold rubber bracelets with the saying “Everybody’s Mayor … Bob O’Connor” were sold throughout the city. Proceeds from the $2 wristbands benefited the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Students use bands as fundraiser for museum

After corresponding with museum officials at the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center, a $25,000 donation was made to sponsor a pre-school reading nook.

“This may be the most touching, incredible donation we received,” said Betsy Grant, museum director. “We are just one block from the Mississippi Gulf and are in an old school building, all brick. The debris from all around came through the windows and destroyed what we had.”


Special Olympics volunteer remembered with bands

When Kellen James Poultney, a bright and active 20-year-old from Middletown, died in 2003, the Big Ball Marathon contributed $1,000 in his name to Special Olympics Delaware.

Kellen had been a volunteer coach for the Special Olympics. He also was a mentor, had played MOT Little League and varsity baseball at Middletown High School and attended the University of Delaware…


Student uses bands to fund cause against drunk driving

Evan’s organization, I Don’t Drive Drunk (IDDD), is aimed at raising awareness, changing legislation and getting tougher penalties for even first-time offenders. “I’m not against drinking,” he insisted. “Just drinking and driving.”

DaSilva said he hopes his group will in some way honor the memory of Andy and Grace. “There’s nothing to justify their deaths. But I can certainly work at it,” DaSilva said.


Bands used to support mayor with cancer

Inspired by Mayor Bob O’Connor’s battle with cancer, a Pittsburgh paramedic came up with a way for people to keep the mayor in their thoughts. Black rubber wristbands with “Everybody’s Mayor … Bob O’Connor” written in gold are on sale for $2 each. Proceeds benefit the local chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Five thousand wristbands went on sale Thursday at selected locations in the Pittsburgh area. All of them had been sold by 2 p.m. Friday, the LLS said.


Town remembers teen with bands in her favorite color

As recently as June, Cohen donned a cap and gown and participated in the Norwalk High School graduation ceremony. The student body named her the keynote speaker, and it was an event that Cohen wouldn’t have missed for the world. It was also an event that the student body of NHS wouldn’t soon forget. Everybody was pulling for Cohen. Every sporting event I attended, there was always somebody that had those baby blue (Cohen’s favorite color) rubber bracelets with the word “Hope” engraved on it. Donation jars were filled to the brim.
