Youth group sells bands to aid in Katrina rebuilding

The youth group at First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church is headed to the Big East, but before they can help the region rebuild, the teens need Arlington’s help.

The group of 18 Arlington teenagers and their adult advisor, a New Orleans native herself, are working to raise money for a trip in February to help the region rebuild after Hurricane Katrina decimated the area last year.

Bands used to remember Reagan

When 2-year-old Reagan Williams died from being shaken, her loved ones did not want her to become “just a statistic.”

They decided to channel their grief – and Reagan’s memorial donations – into Reagan’s Rescue, an effort aimed at raising money through the sale of pink and purple bracelets to raise awareness about Shaken Baby Syndrome and help abuse victims.

Bands urge player to try harder

Al Thornton’s bracelets tell it all. The soft-spoken Thornton wears a rubber bracelet on each wrist with the phrase ”next step” written on each.

After leading the Seminoles in scoring a year ago, many thought Thornton would jump from the college ranks, but Thornton spurned NBA riches and returned for his senior season to take the Seminoles — not his career — to the next level.

Politician wears bands to show his support

Robert Ehrlich Jr. wears his heart and emotions on his sleeves, right down to the rubber bracelets on his wrists. And we like it, particularly when he turns up the heat on the near-criminal blundering of the administration of education of Baltimore city’s schools. The orange band on one wrist says “I am Able,” a personal reminder. The blue one shows support for Tay-Sachs disease research.

Friends use bands to inspire teen’s recovery

Parents don’t always welcome a gaggle of noisy, gangly teenagers, but Lisa Feitler likes it when her son’s friends come around.

They aren’t a hassle. They’re even therapeutic.

Cade Feitler turned 13 on Feb. 7, 2005. The next day he was in a car accident that left him with a brain injury, unable to move or speak.

Wristbands used to boost voter turnout in Bulgaria

A coalition of 13 non-government organisations launched a campaign to encourage Bulgarians to vote in the October 22 presidential elections, Darik Radio reported.

The campaign is called “I care” and is a response to concerns that voter turnout will be low.
One hundred thousand silicone bracelets in the colours of Bulgaria’s flag and with the slogan “I care” would be given away during the campaign, Darik said.
