School bus crash shows need for child wristband IDs

TOLEDO, Ohio - Emergency workers who tended injured victims at the chaotic scene of a school bus crash have proposed that children on field trips wear wristbands with identifying information. School officials in Michigan and northwest Ohio said that sounds like a good idea.


Wedding Favor Wristbands

Numerous sites have popped up to advertise silicone wristbands as a wedding favor idea. Some couples have given out awareness bracelets to give guests a momento, as well as a feel-good item that supports a good cause, others have customized theirs to memorialize their big day and provide a nifty party favor. Also, celebrity weddings have even utilized silicone wristbands to grant access to legitimate invitees.


Politics and Wristbands

The wristband craze has expanded to include political expression. Republicans and Democrats can be found with red or blue wristbands in support of their party or particular candidate, or for campaign fundraisers. Like the traditional colors that showed which state supported which party in an election, wristbands commonly match red for Republican and blue for Democrat, despite a few who have reversed the trend. Phrases have included upcoming election dates, Bush or Kerry support phrases, and even anti-campaign phrases.

The University of Michigan will begin selling new maize and blue tie-dye wristbands this weekend, hoping to build on the success of a blue version that generated more than $400,000 in sales to help fund a new children and women’s hospital.
