Funeral home bracelets help remember loved ones, raise money for charity

A local funeral home is distributing popular rubber bracelets to help families remember deceased loved ones while it raises cash for sick children.

White bracelets that read In Memory will be distributed to every family who gathers at Memories Chapel and Pre-Planning Centre in Brandon and Minnedosa for a donation.

Proceeds will go to The Children’s Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to seriously ill children across the country.

The bracelets are a take on the yellow cancer awareness ones made popular by seven-time Tour de France champ Lance Armstrong.

“These tasteful white bracelets will be a touching reminder of the person that the bereaved are gathered to honour,” said Brent Buchanan, of Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre and president of the Funeral Services Association of Canada.

“Donating the proceeds to help seriously ill children experience laughter and joyful memories is a wonderful way to turn a poignant event into an opportunity to spread hope to others.”

Already, 7,200 people are wearing the white bracelets from the campaign, which started this week.

Buchanan also gave a bracelet to a man whose pet recently died.

The Children’s Wish Foundation has granted more than 10,000 wishes in the past 20 years to children aged three to 17, who suffer from life-threatening illnesses. More information is available at www.childrenswish.ca.
