KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The family of a 15-year-old boy who died after complications with a feeding tube has created a memorial to help others.
In February, Jake Clough was injured in a bicycle accident and suffered a brain injury. A month later, he died at Children’s Mercy Hospital when a feeding tube became dislodged in his abdomen, an autopsy showed.
Tom Clough, Jake’s father, said his son was wearing his bike helmet and a Lance Armstrong “Live Strong” yellow wristband at the time of the accident.
As a tribute to Jake, the Brain Injury Association of Kansas City developed a neon green wristband, which was the teenager’s favorite color. The wristbands cost $3 each.
Proceeds from the sale of the wristbands will go to the Brain Injury Association of Kansas City and will be used to promote bicycle safety.
