First came WWJD, then Lance Armstrong’s yellow Livestrong bracelets, and now there’s a bracelet for Georgia Tech football fans.
The gold and white bracelets, sold for $4 apiece, feature the Yellow Jackets’ “TEAM/me” motto and “GT FOOTBALL 2005.” They’re a fund-raiser for the team’s parents organization, which plans to use the money to rent a courtyard for its gatherings following this season’s home games.
About 3,500 of the 5,500 bracelets remain, said Wendy Jones, mother of backup quarterback Taylor Bennett. Jones and Karen Smith, mother of backup offensive tackle A.J. Smith, have spearheaded the effort. The parents worked closely with Tech’s athletics department to make sure they didn’t violate any NCAA rules or the school’s licensing deals, Jones said.
The bracelets are available through Tailgaters Alley at Discover Mills, or by phone at 678-584-9688. They’ll also be sold outside Bobby Dodd Stadium at Tech home games, said Tailgaters Alley co-owner Chris Wilkerson, Tech class of 1989.
