Who's Wearing Wristbands?

NBA “Banding” Together

In recent years basketball has become quite a trendy sport. From calf-sleeves to headbands there are various styles and trends one may choose to follow. Apparently the NBA is no exception to this rule. While many of the past trends have been partial to each players style, a new trend has caught fire which is being embraced by many payers regardless of their differences in style. This trend is the wearing of silicone wristbands, otherwise known as “baller ID bands”.

These “baller ID bands” contain messages ranging anywhere from team names to player motto’s. While many players use these wristbands, they maintain their individuality by personalizing the message inscribed on their bands.

A perfect example is DeShawn Stevenson. “I don’t mess with them when I’m wearing them [during games] but I do notice it when I don’t have them on,” said Stevenson, who wears identical “2 Family” bands on each wrist. “2 Family” is a reference to his rookie jersey number and the people he says most deserve credit for him being where he is today. Stevenson wears blue bands at home games and black on the road, but he always wears a fresh pair every game.

The ever so popular wristbands, which started as a way to support Lance Armstrong’s charity, have now become a popular way for anyone to be able to express themselves. They are available to everyone and anyone with a nearly endless possibility of uses. Only the future will tell where they will pop up next.
