Early detection is key for colorectal cancer, since by the time someone begins noticing symptoms, it’s often too late.
Wapner wears a blue bracelet to raise awareness – “There’s a lot of these rubber bracelets out there,” he admits – and he hands one off to anyone he meets who hasn’t been screened for the disease.
That goal is part of Wapner’s new outlook on life and the result of how close he came to losing everything.
“You just tend to really treasure every day of your life and look at your life as a whole. Little things that happen … it just doesn’t matter anymore,” he said. “What really matters is your health and well-being and the important things in life. You just put everything in perspective.”
