Youth group sells bands to aid in Katrina rebuilding

The youth group at First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church is headed to the Big East, but before they can help the region rebuild, the teens need Arlington’s help.

The group of 18 Arlington teenagers and their adult advisor, a New Orleans native herself, are working to raise money for a trip in February to help the region rebuild after Hurricane Katrina decimated the area last year.

The youth group has been raising money by selling rubber bracelets complete in Mardi Gras colors of green, purple and gold with the words “Rebuild New Orleans,” hosting a movie night and table at the Harvest Moon Fair, raking leaves and babysitting. On Saturday, they will hold their largest fund raiser, a coffeehouse featuring seven local bands.
