Students wear bands to promote peace
Students at Mount de Sales Academy got a glimpse Thursday of what it’s like to live in a war-ravaged country - without freedom, forced to leave home at gunpoint, educated secretly in private apartments.
The private Catholic school in Macon held an assembly to promote peace and invited Agon Kabashi, a 2003 Mount de Sales graduate, as a guest speaker. Each Sept. 21 is the International Day of Peace as declared by a United Nations General Assembly resolution. The resolution urges a global cease-fire and nonviolence.
Most of the 650 students wore T-shirts and blue, rubber bracelets with peace symbols. They held a moment of silence at noon. Students had also made posters promoting peace to hang on classroom doors.
