Special Olympics volunteer remembered with bands

When Kellen James Poultney, a bright and active 20-year-old from Middletown, died in 2003, the Big Ball Marathon contributed $1,000 in his name to Special Olympics Delaware.

Kellen had been a volunteer coach for the Special Olympics. He also was a mentor, had played MOT Little League and varsity baseball at Middletown High School and attended the University of Delaware…

Each year since Kellen’s death, Big Ball has donated $1,000 to the Special Olympics. In 2004, they began giving another $1,000 to the Kellen Poultney Baseball/Academic Scholarship Fund.

Donning silicone bracelets bearing Kellen’s name and T-shirts designed by Jacy, Kel’s Keggers is now the largest team on the Big Ball roster. Last year, Kel’s Keggers raised $1,000.
