Bracelets Raise Money for Medical Bills

For two months, Tammy Albomonte has been selling rubber bracelets emblazoned with “Friends for Alex” for 5-year-old Alex Rodriguez, the ill son of her good friends.

Alex was diagnosed two years ago with an ependymoma brain tumor and since has undergone costly surgeries and chemotherapy treatments. Albomonte saw her friends’ bills add up and wanted to do something to help.

She is selling for $3 the wristbands of teal, yellow and white until 5 p.m. today at the Strack & Van Til at U.S. 30 and U.S. 41 in Schererville.

Sales thus far have generated about $8,000 for the boy’s treatment costs.
